Hello there My husband and I are Greek and we live in Cyprus. We are looking to adopt 1 or 2 children from Russia and we have already applied to the authorities of your country through our local authorities here in Cyprus as we have homestudy and all necessary documents ready on request. We have looked at some listings of children in novosibirsk 'Sunshine' ORPHANAGE and others and also sent them an e mail but got no reply. I then tried to call the number advertised on the internet which is 007383 125 26 27 and the lady that answered did not speak English and I do not speak Russian. How do we go about communicating with a language barrier and without being able to reach them even by sending e mails please?? Please inform me how to go about finding a child now that all our papers are ready. Many thanks,Katia

I am only 18 but in my life I have already experienced hardship. I was saved by an American couple but in sacrifice I lost my beloved brothers and family. I have set out a search to find them... I miss them so much. I have an older brother his name is Sasha Alexandor Sniga. He used to live in Krasnodar but I do not know where he is now. I recently visited Ukraine where I took part in a kids Christian camp. At the camp were several orphans. I grew so close to so many of them and really formed an intense bond with some of them. One of them specifically. He asked me to adopt him and it had burdened my heart since then. He even wrote the address of his orphanage, and phone number. I'm having such a hard time locating him though, and my family and I are really eager to look into adopting him. Does anyone know how I can find a specific orphan?

Looking for husband's parents in Russia

Hi My husband was adopted from Russia from the psych-neurological baby house #10 in St Petersburg on the Herzen pedagogical university campus March of 1992 at the age of 2 1/2. We have his original birth name and date but no information on his parents or hospital he was born in since his adoptive mother is refusing to give us any information and his adoptive father who brought him from Russia past away when was only 7 years old. I believe the name of the woman in charge of the orphanage at this time was Alla Gamaeva. We also have video of the orphanage itself but neither myself nor my husband sadly can understand Russian. I know that there were only 324 orphans adopted from Russia into the US during this year. I'm unsure where to start our search and he is desperate to find out who his birth parents are. Is it easier to start with the US information or try to contact the Russian Embassy regarding his paperwork? Should I try calling the orphanage directly? If anyone could lead us in the right direction we would be truly grateful.

This is a long shot however, could you please provide sources of where I can find records belonging to an Orphanage that existed in Nikolaev, 1900 - 1920. My mother (now deceased) was brought up in an orphanage. She was born, she believes, in 1919 without known parents. Her maiden name was either Kolomizeva or Kolomeitz. My husband Anthony and I are trying to find out information about his adoption/biological family. He was born March 3,1987 in St.Petersburg, Russia and his name at birth was Ruslan Markov. He was adopted by California residents Linda Swanson and Kenneth Callaghan in 1994 at the age of 7 from an orphanage in or around St.Petersburg, where we belive he had lived since the age of 3. He is now estranged from his adoptive parents and they refuse to give us copies of the records and information about his adoption and his parents. We know however that the agent who helped his adoptive family find him was named Galina, however we dont know her last name or the agency she worked for. Anyone having any tips on how to find anything out please let us know!!

Hi! We adopted our daughter from Russia in 1996 and our coordinator's name was Galina also. I don't know her last name or how to contact her, but I believe she lives in New York now. At the time she worked with Children's Home Society and Family Services in Minnesota. They have a web site and could probably help you. Good luck!

At the time of adoption, your husband Anthony CALLAGHAN would have been an alien immigrant. He may have been naturalized as a U.S. citizen later by the former Immigration and Naturalization Service. The INS would have created a dossier of information about Anthony. Americans apply for information that the U.S. government maintains about them under the terms of The Privacy Act of 1974. This sounds as if I'm a lawyer, but I'm not. Anthony should apply for a copy of whatever documents are in his dossier. While adoption records are sealed in California, adult adoptees may petition the relevant court for access. In my opinion, adoptees who are estranged from their adoptive parents would be more likely--in some states--to get their records unsealed. However it may be necessary to nullify the adoption. If Anthony wishes to pursue that route, he can seek the advice of a lawyer in California. You may wish to educate yourself by reading (an out-of-print) book I published in 1978: The Reg Niles Searchbook for Adult Adoptees. Just a little over a year ago (Nov. 2007) we adopted a boy (10 years old) named Roman from Donetsk, Ukraine. He was from Internat #1. He told us that his friend in the orphanage was supposed to get adopted too, and he thought he was going to California (same as Roman). I would like to reunite these two friends.

We too are going back to Russia this year. This website has the phone numbers for the orphanges all though it is a little dated. The prefix to my son's orphanage had changed. We found our son's birthfamily in November . I joined birthparent search on the yahoo groups. Wealth of information there mnay searchers in Russia listed.

As I understood you would like to see the pictures of the clildren from orphanages, but it is almost immpossible and I have tried to do this in the past. To get the pictures of the children someone needs to get the permission from the Ministry of Education of Russia (Regional office), trabel there, shoot pictures and somehow to mail them to you what actually takes tons of trraffic and what is not very much possiblle. My best suggestion is of course: you need to come to Russia to see the child yourself... or - maybe define the age, the sex and the preferences of the child you wish to adopt. After that the search will be more narrowed. Please, let me know if you would like to take first or second way to start from. I will me more than happy to help.
